Rated 5 out of 5 by from Amazing sound quality as you'd expect from Bose Bose is a brand that have always wowed me in terms of the sound and audio quality of their devices and the Smart Ultra sound bar does exactly that. The soundbar has Dolby Atmo built in and features Bose TrueSpace technology. The combination is a depth of sound and an immersive audio experience that makes you feel like you are in the middle of your favourite movies. The sound bar has Alexa built in so it can function as a smart home device and speaker and it has a large audio range with impeccably crisp vocal clarity thanks to it's AI Dialogue Mode. The bass is really decent considering this is a standalone sound bar with no bulky independent subwoofer and as with all my Bose products I really love the sound quality.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great Features When unboxing the Bose sound bar, the quality of the packaging immediately stood out. The way it was meticulously packaged demonstrated the attention to detail. However, it's important to be cautious not to overlook the neatly tucked away cables in the box when removing the sound bar. Setting up the sound bar is a breeze, although it took me some time to realize that there were no physical instructions included. Instead, there was a leaflet guiding me to download the app. Once I accessed the app, everything became clear. The app itself is intuitive and user-friendly, surpassing the functionality of the previous Bose app. The actual setup process is straightforward, with minimal cables to connect. There are multiple options, including HDMI ARC and optical cable, and the app provides settings to turn on the sound bar through the optical cable. Even without access to enough HDMI ports, the sound from the sound bar is still impressive. It effectively projects audio effects throughout the room, creating an immersive experience. One feature that proved to be a bit challenging for me was the Adapt AIQ. While it worked well in films, it ultimately comes down to personal preference. Personally, I prefer the loud crashes and bangs, even if it means the voices are slightly overshadowed by the bass. However, I did notice that when listening to something like boxing with crowds, the Adapt IQ feature tends to muddy the voices. It's important to play around with the settings to find the right balance for individual preferences. Overall, the sound bar delivers incredible sound quality and boasts a visually stunning design. Contrary to some reviews, I found that the sound bar performs exceptionally well, even when listening to music. In fact, I believe it outperforms another high-quality sound bar I own in a different room. In terms of pros, the sound quality is unparalleled, and the Bose sound bar exudes a fantastic and high-quality appearance. On the other hand, there are a few cons to consider. The new smaller control included with the sound bar is less functional and more challenging to use compared to the previous model. However, since the sound bar is primarily controlled through the app, this drawback can be mitigated by using your phone. Another con is that to fully experience the sound bar's potential and achieve a truly immersive experience, investing in the bass module is recommended. In conclusion, the Bose sound bar impresses with its brilliant packaging, incredible sound quality, and visually appealing design. While there are some caveats such as the smaller control and the need for the bass module, the overall performance and user-friendly app make it a worthwhile investment for audio enthusiasts.

FAQs

What is TrueSpace?

Proprietary Bose TrueSpace spatial processing intelligently analyses signals other than Dolby Atmos, like stereo or 5.1, and upmixes them to create an immersive multi-channel sound experience with a sense of height in the soundscape. The result? Enveloping immersive sound no matter what you watch. Unlike Dolby Atmos — which requires compatible content, hardware, content source, and speaker system —TrueSpace will take any content — regardless of how it was encoded or your equipment — and deliver that Atmos-like experience.

What is Works-with-Google certified?

Works with Google gives you voice control over content playback on Works with Google-enabled Bose devices. This is done via an additional proxy device such as a Google Mini. The command is given to the proxy device, while the content itself is played on the Bose device. You can set up a Bose device as the preferred speaker in the Google Assistant app – this defaults content playback to that device. If you don’t set the Bose device up as a preferred speaker, you will need to include the name of the Bose device in the command.

Does the Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar have 4K pass-through capability?

No. It only handles the audio output from the TV, no external video goes through the soundbar.

Does the Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar have Ethernet built in?

Yes.

What placement guidelines should be considered to ensure optimal audio performance of the Bose Bass Module 700 and Bose Bass Module 500?

For best sound quality, the Bose Bass Module 700 and Bose Bass Module 500 should be placed on the floor against the same wall as the television and soundbar, with an electrical outlet nearby for the power cord. The bass module should not be placed on a shelf or table. For more bass, the bass module should be placed closer to walls and corners. For less bass, the bass module should be pulled away from walls and corners.

Can source devices, such as a cable box, iPod, gaming system, etc., be connected directly to the Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar?

No. All sources must be connected to the TV and then a single connection (via the HDMI or optical cable) must be made from the TV to the soundbar.

Can I use a third-party universal remote control with the Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar?

Yes. It can be controlled by third-party remote controls that include the set of Bose IR commands.

Can the Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar be mounted to the wall?

Yes. The optional Bose Soundbar Wall Bracket lets you mount the soundbar to the wall.

Can the Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar be used with other Bose smart speakers and soundbars as part of a multi-room system?

Yes. You can group any of our smart speakers and soundbars (Home Speaker 300, Smart Speaker 500, Portable Smart Speaker, Smart Soundbar 700, Soundbar 500, Smart Soundbar 600 and Smart Soundbar 300) together for multi-room listening using the Bose Music app. This way, you can fill your whole home with music – either synchronised or with different music in different rooms.

Can I put the Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar in standby mode with my voice?

Yes. Simply say, “Alexa, turn off [speaker name].” or “Hey Google, turn off [speaker name]” (if a compatible Google device is on the same network). This action will stop any content playing, turn off any lights on the light bar and disconnect Bluetooth devices. If enabled, Amazon Alexa will still listen for voice commands in standby mode.

Can I control the bass?

Yes. Bass can be controlled in the Bose Music app.

Can you mix and match the wireless bass modules and soundbars?

Yes. The Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar and the Bose Bass Modules all use the same wireless protocols and can be mixed and matched. However, the design language and materials of the Smart Ultra Soundbar and the Bass Module 700 are designed to complement each other.

Can I connect two wireless bass modules to my soundbar?

Yes. If you desire even more bass, you can wirelessly connect two bass modules to your Bose Smart Ultra Soundbar. But you can only connect two of the same bass modules. In other words, you must connect two Bose Bass Module 700s or Bose Bass Module 500s to a single soundbar. You cannot connect one Bose Bass Module 700 and one Bose Bass Module 500 to a single soundbar.

Can I use Chromecast to cast audio content to groups of Bose smart speakers and soundbars?

Yes. You can cast audio content to your group of Bose smart speakers or soundbars through the Bose Music app or on the products themselves. Start by creating a group in the Bose Music app and casting to that group, or by pressing and holding the Action button on the connecting device to pair them into a group that’s playing a cast stream. Group your ground floor speakers, or all the speakers in the house and get the party started.
